A Celebration of Transformation – Meditation Mutha

This past week, my husband Scott and I drove our daughter to college, car packed to the brim with clothes, decorations, essentials, and pieces of home to make her dorm feel warm and hers. We spent all day Thursday getting her settled in, bed made, clothes hung and decorations on the wall.

After the move-in bustle, we took a little time just for us and went out for lunch together and a walk through the botanical gardens. We strolled through a butterfly garden and it felt so symbolic. Seeing the different phases of transformation from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly made me reflect for a moment on all of the beautiful and important stages I have been honored to witness throughout Kayla’s life that have made her into the amazing being she is today.

As the time grew closer to saying goodbye, I could feel the tension build. We pulled up to her dorm and the three of us stepped out of the car for a brief farewell, tears brimming in all of our eyes. We each gave her a big hug and then she said “I have to go,” and we watched her walk away into her new life. Scott and I got into the car, looked at each other, and the floodgates opened. We just sat there, crying together for a while.

It’s a strange, bittersweet feeling celebrating her transformation into the incredible young woman she’s becoming, while grieving the shift in the roles we’ll now play in her life. It’s a new season that is sure to bring plenty of growth and gratitude for each of us.

I am completely confident that she will thrive in her new journey because, like the butterfly, everything she needs is inside of her.

Sending lots of love to all of the families who are going through a similar transition. Your collective efforts to get you to this point are seen, felt and should be celebrated. This metamorphosis in family dynamics is necessary for each individual to transform into the highest version of themselves. Root your confidence into the process and soar!
